Less than 93 hours to go!

So you’re in the final week of a 44 week marathon, do you up the ante and go really hard, or slack off and fool yourself that you can pull it back together at together at the end?

Guess what I’ve been doing?

I have just under 93 hours until the final weigh in of the saving Alan fundraising project to go now, and I need to really work hard and make up for lost opportunity over the past 3-4 days. It’s food and work, when I get really busy and a bot overwhelmed by volume I slacken off. In the past I did it without even thinking, now I am conscious of doing it. I am not sure if it worse or better?

I am about to send out a final sponsorship reminder to everyone connected with me and saving Alan on Facebook. That combined with the upcoming Sun-herald story on Sunday will be the last hurrah for trying to raise funds on a sponsorship basis, I have now decided to keep the donations part of the supporters section open, so you can keep following me over the coming year as I try and shift the final 30 kilos.

Bikram Yoga this morning was probably my worst practice, I felt less than average and  just slacked off .. interestingly it followed probably my best practice last Saturday. I need to ramp up the exercise over the coming days, so on the exercise bike tonight and tomorrow morning, Bikram Yoga on saturday morning and bike it on Sunday and Monday mornings.

Monday is the final day, 30 November.

I’ll be off to the Healthy Hearts Clinic (part of the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes institute) at the Alfred Hospital for a final check up and then off for the final weigh in with my Naturopath. This figure will be used to calculate sponsorship totals, which currently stands at just over $5,000.

Not bad for a simple idea.

Supporter Update – Week 32

Over the past few weeks donations and sponsorship has increased dramatically, to the point where we have broken through the $5,000 mark based on the 40.5 kilos I’ve lost so far, and possibly getting over $6,500 if I reach the full 60 kilos.

I’d love to get to double that figure and with just under 12 weeks to go hopefully we can get enough support to get there and beyond. When I set out I had hoped that we’d at least get to $5,000 so I am very grateful for all the support that has made this happen so quickly.

But still a long way to go, so if you haven’t sponsored me yet, click on the Support Alan tab on the menu.

Thanks to my new sponsors – Lee-Anne, Marc and Claire.

Thank you for your support, please spread the word to your contacts, let see just how far we take this from my small network and really raise some serious funds for Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute.

  • Julie Long    $2 per kilo
  • Mark & Marlene Fry     $1 per kilo
  • Peter Applebaum    $5 per kilo

Hopefully it will continue to grow towards the $10,000 mark by the end of November, so spread the word. On the basis of losing 60 kilos we currently raise $6,660, or $5,850 for a 50 kilo loss for Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute.

Week 25 Update

update25

So, 18 weeks to go until I wrap this up, although I will continue the personal program through into the new year until I get my weight down the my goal weight of 88 kilos.

Another good week, even though I didn’t exercise on all of the days that I planned to and my eating was poor over last weekend. I’ll somehow fix that this week, although with my son in tow it makes it hard to get out for a walk on Sunday, and I have the additional food temptation of going to the football on Sunday afternoon to see the Bombers take on the Tigers .. the second last game D and I will get to this year. But a little sacrifice of what I’d like in the moment versus the value I get long term by sticking to the plan means I’ll be good, I’ll take some roasted almonds and water, that’ll get me through.

Fat Food Friday was a ripper today, toasted sandwiches for breakfast, Prawn Risotto for lunch and a burger and chips for dinner .. feeling bloated and unsatisfied .. ahh, don’t you love it!

Now I need to cook lunches for next week so that is out of the way for the weekend.

Tomorrow morning is Bikrm Yoga at 9.30am and then an afternoon of housework (cleaning, ironing, washing), followed by playing in my main band How Now at Khyats in Brighton, if you’re in Melbourne and looking for something to do head down around 9pm and say g’day. So it will be a big day of exercise.

The rest of the week will be Monday night – walk, Tuesday 6 am Bikram Yoga, Wednesday – walk, Thursday 6 am Bikram Yoga. I’ll try and get another walk in, maybe Tuesday night if I can get myself organised well enough, but next weekend I’ll do a 2 hour walk on the Sunday morning.

That’s enough for tonight .. can I just ask two things from you.

  1. please sponsor me, all funds go to baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute.
  2. spread the word about my blog.

Tomorrow it's a whole new ball game!

Last week I got a message via Facebook from Richard Stubbs’ producer, Peter Dillon asking if I’d be interested in going on air with Richard and talking about saving Alan and how I got to the point of deciding to do it and how I am going about it.

Without thinking I said yes. Tonight, the night before going on air with Richard I have what may be classed as buyers remorse, wondering whether the story will resonate with anyone or will I cop criticism from self interest groups – I don’t know what to expect at all. But I trust Richard to get me through it and to start me on a new path of discussion that I haven’t yet touched on in previous blogs and that is why am I obese – the between the ears story.

Then again he may not touch on that, it’ll be interesting to see where the conversation goes.

So if you’re interested tune in at 1.30pm, Wednesday 27 May to have a listen, if you can’t then I am sure there will be some podcst version of it on the 774 website.

Is going overly public a good idea? Hope the story resonates.

Can I beat the Biggest Loser?

I don’t know about that, I started out about 10 kilos lighter than him and aim to end up a little heavier than him, my ultimate aim is somewhere between 80 – 85 kilos.

Bob, the winner lost a staggering 87.6 kilos, 52.5% (or thereabouts) of his starting weight. Incredible.

He has done that in the same time I have lost 24 kilos … it must be an amazing gift to be on a show like that where they focus on your health and training non-stop, I wonder what I could have achieved?

But my challenge is like so many others, I have a job, a child and other commitments day to day and need to find a way to make it happen over an extended period of time within my normal life and without the support infrastructure that the contestants have, plus no-one is going to give me a chance at $400,000 at the end of it.

I hope you’ll support me, with comments, encouragement and even help me help research into Heart and Diabetes research through Baker IDI.

Sponsor me now!

Ok, I’ve lost 24 kilos in 12 weeks .. that must be proof that I am serious about this, now for the important stuff – raising money for the Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute. I’ve written before that the idea of doing good will help me stay on track, providing extra motivation and importantly a sense of purpose for the SavingAlan project that isn’t necessarily focused on me alone.

I delayed opening the sponsor function for a couple of reasons;

i) proof that I can lose the weight

ii) Govt had to approve me

Now it’open, it’s all tax deductible, and it’s easy,

Check out Support Alan for all the details.

Thanks in advance.
